Monteloeder Announce New Phone App to Help People Stay Safe In The Sun
08 Aug 2016 --- Monteloeder is set to release a new smartphone application on the 30th September, with aims to help customers track the benefits of using its NutroxSun oral suncare formulation and stay safe in the sun.
Powered by sophisticated artificial intelligence, the app combines key environmental information, including the current UV index, temperature and pollution levels, along with personal information, such as skin type and the amount of NutroxSun ingested, to calculate a ‘UV budget’ for the user.
Tapping into the trend for the ‘gamification’ of everyday life, Monteloeder claim that the app will engage with users in a way that is friendly and fun.
Fernando Cartagena, Head of Global Marketing at Monteloeder, told NutritionInsight: “I believe that the food supplements industry is in an inflexion point, going from clinically proven to digitally proven products, meaning products that digital devices can show how the supplements work on the specific body of the consumer that is taking them.”
He explained, “This is consistent with a much broader trend that is happening globally towards personalization and customization of consumer products. And we believe the food supplement industry is no exception.”
NutroxSun, an oral sun protection supplement, is a blend of natural grapefruit and rosemary extracts, and recent peer reviewed clinical trials have suggested that consuming 100mg of NutroxSun daily offers sun protection and anti-ageing benefits. The app will warn the user when their ‘UV budget’ is close to being exhausted, and it can be topped up again by applying sunscreen.
Cartagena believes that digital technologies are the way forward for the food supplement industry, stating, “Most of the companies in the food ingredients field are focusing more and more on clinical studies. For us, clinical studies are not the goal but the backbone on which to build our current and future apps.”
He explained, “Based on the results of these clinical studies, we can develop interactions with consumers ingesting our ingredients and show them the effects that they should be experiencing in certain parameters of their health.”
Cartagena added that personalization is key to the success of utilizing technology, and stated, “By using the app, it will be the consumer who will let us know how a particular formula is working on their specific body which will allow for a much higher personalization than we can reach with general clinical studies.”
The announcement of the forthcoming smartphone app follows health claims being approved by Health Canada. These include that consumption of Nutroxsun provides antioxidants, helps to improve the skin’s response to small amounts of UV-induced oxidative stress and that it helps reduce wrinkle depth and increase skin elasticity.
