Tetra Prisma Aseptic 250 Edge revitalizes Mengniu organic dairy drink for on-the-go

20 Jul 2018 --- Chinese dairy manufacturer Mengniu has launched the first organic milk product to be packaged in the Tetra Prisma Aseptic 250 Edge with DreamCap. The new product line has a higher protein content, improved taste and stands out on the shelf due to a refreshed look. With on-the-go milk drinks gaining increasing popularity in the Asian market in particular, Mengniu says it expects sales of this product to generate US$14.5 million in August alone.

Health claim victory: EFSA confirms physical performance benefits of carbohydrate solutions

14 Mar 2018 --- The European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) has published a scientific assessment confirming the beneficial health effects of glycemic carbohydrates on the improvement of physical performance during high-intensity and long-lasting physical exercise. As a result, sports nutrition companies will be able to include on-pack claims regarding the performance boosting capacity of products containing carbohydrate solutions (CHO). 

Ancient becomes modern: US$103 million investment for bone broth innovator

12 Mar 2018 --- Ancient Nutrition, a bone broth protein and collagen supplement maker, has secured $103 million in funding through strategic minority investment led by VMG Partners. The company, which is the breakthrough pioneer in Bone Broth Protein supplementation that delivers the benefits of “homemade bone broth in a convenient, easy-to-mix form,” revealed a minority investment from VMG Partners, Hillhouse Capital, ICONIQ Capital, and over 100 members of a co-investor network.

Dutch doctors call for energy drinks ban for under 18s, Negative health effects reported in Canadian youth

16 Jan 2018 --- Calls for a ban on the sale of energy drinks to under 18s have intensified in the Netherlands. Pediatricians are once again arguing for a ban on the sale of energy drinks to young people under the age of eighteen. The Dutch Society for Pediatrics says it is treating more and more young patients who report with symptoms such as restlessness, fatigue and cardiac arrhythmia. A ban is highly unlikely, however, with the Dutch Ministry of Health responding dismissively to the calls.

Kellogg to acquire up-and-coming US clean-label protein bar brand

09 Oct 2017 --- Kellogg Company has entered into an agreement to acquire Chicago Bar Company LLC, maker of RXBAR, a line of clean-label protein bars made with whole food ingredients. Kellogg refers to the company as “the fastest-growing nutrition bar brand in the US.”

Athlete complaints of contaminated ingredients could be “valid”

25 Jul 2017 --- 25 Jul 2017 It is possible that complaints about contamination of the ingredients used in athletes’ dietary supplements have some merit. This is according to Lukas Vaclavik, a Staff Scientist at Covance Food Solutions, which is a LabCorp business. Vaclavik notes that dietary supplements that were taken by athletes who have been banned from competing could conceivably have contained products that were not listed on product labels.
