Lonza Receives Regulatory Approval for the Acquisition of Capsugel
29 Jun 2017 --- Lonza has received all regulatory approvals for the proposed acquisition of Capsugel S.A. by Lonza, the company has announced. With all final regulatory approvals in place, Lonza can now complete the transaction, which is expected to close in the next days subject to the satisfaction of customary closing conditions.
Lonza announced at the end of last year that it had reached a definitive agreement for the acquisition of Capsugel for US$5.5 billion. At the time, Lonza chief executive Richard Ridinger said, “The combined business will allow us to partner with our customers to help them bring highly differentiated products to market more quickly and efficiently.”
Approximately two-thirds of Capsugel’s global business comes from biopharma and about one-third from consumer health and nutrition. Its range of capsules used in the food industry include specialized gelatin and vegetarian capsules, including non-GMO certified capsules.
The deal will strengthen Lonza’s position in consumer healthcare and nutrition, with Lonza saying that the deal would allow it to be “well positioned to meet the increasing need for optimized consumer health and nutrition through a wide offering of next-generation dosage forms.”
On Tuesday, the company also announced that Fridtjof Helemann, Lonza Chief Human Resources Officer (CHRO), has been elected to the Board of Advance Women in Swiss Business. The mission of this non-profit association is to actively increase the share of women in leading positions in Swiss companies on an ongoing basis.
Founded in September 2013 by 10 major multinational firms doing business in Switzerland, the networking group has expanded six-fold in the last years as it strives to support women in the workplace.
“Lonza holds to the belief echoed by Advance Women that gender equality and inclusion are a competitive advantage in business,” says Helemann. “Membership in this organization will help us to discover new ways of balancing our gender mix and at the same time give us the opportunity to share our own positive experiences with other Swiss companies.”
