Non-GMO Project verifies Bioriginal’s AlfaPro alfalfa protein powder

04 Sep 2017 --- Bioriginal’s AlfaPro alfalfa protein powder is now Non-GMO Project Verified, the company has announced. AlfaPro, which the company says is made from 100 percent young alfalfa plants, is part of Bioriginal’s line of plant-based proteins “useful for maintaining overall health and energy levels.”

“Achieving this verification is a great outcome for both our company and our customers,” says Bioriginal President Joe Vidal. “It reaffirms our commitment to traceability and meets the growing consumer demand for non-GMO products.”

“Bioriginal continually looks at where the market is going in order to meet consumer demand. We recognized that consumers are wanting clean labels, with non-GMO being one of the fastest growing labels that they are looking for,” Jenelyn Ong, Marketing & Communications Specialist at Bioriginal, tells NutritionInsight. “This is also shown in a Nielsen report that found sales of foods labeled as non-GMO have grown from US$12.9 billion in 2012 to US$21.2 billion in 2016.”

Consumer interest in non-GMO products is leading the way in the clean label movement, Bioriginal states. Non-GMO Project offers independent, third-party verification of GMO avoidance, Bioriginal’s press release states. According to Consumer Reports, the Non-GMO Project Verified seal is the most trusted non-GMO label among consumers.

AlfaPro is sourced from young alfalfa plants free of pesticides and fertilizers using a cold-juice press process. AlfaPro is described by Bioriginal as “a highly digestible protein source providing more than 50 percent protein, with a Protein Digestibility Corrected Amino Acid Score (PDCAAS) of 0.986 that’s rare among plant proteins.”

“AlfaPro protein powder is a green grass juice powder made of 100 percent alfalfa plants that contains more than 20 vitamins and minerals in its natural form and proportions,” adds Ong. “Green grass juice powders also contain antioxidants that help support the immune system. As a source of protein, AlfaPro aids with overall weight management.”

In addition to being Non-GMO Project Verified, Bioriginal points out that AlfaPro is also GRAS, Kosher certified and Halal certified.
