13 Feb 2019 --- Stratum Nutrition has launched a progressive joint health clinical trial to evaluate its eggshell membrane joint health ingredient, NEM. The trial is being conducted in an exercising, healthy population and is an expanded follow up to Stratum’s 2018 healthy, post-menopausal women trial. With a second randomized controlled trial, the company hopes to substantiate future labeling and advertising claims.

In some instances, nutritional degradation can be as high as 51 percent. Noluma has launched state-of-the-art, patented technology which efficiently tests the viability of packaging against light exposure while advising CPGs on how to design-in more effective barrier protection.
13 Dec 2018 --- Supplementation with the collagen peptide Peptan before and after intense exercise can reduce muscle damage, research led by Rousselot has found. Conducted with Newcastle University researchers in the UK, the study shows how the collagen ingredient can help repair connective tissues after physical activity, thereby preventing the risk of injury when used as a food supplement in sports nutrition. As the first clinical study showing the beneficial effects of collagen peptides for exercise recovery, the findings support the ingredient’s positioning as suitable for sports nutrition.

The study also identified that long-term mineral supplementation increased the ability to maintain the strength once exercise training had stopped. The findings could be significant in maximizing bone mass and strength in young adulthood to protect against the potential declines that come with aging.

29 Aug 2018 --- The use of PET as a packaging material is expected to continue its growth within the global liquid dairy sector. Traditionally packaged in carton or HDPE containers, liquid dairy products bottled in PET are forecasted to grow by 4.4 percent in the period from 2018 to 2020, according to Guillaume Rolland, Vice President Sensitive Products at Sidel. 14 Aug 2018 --- Nestlé’s flagship adult nutrition high protein drink, Boost, now packs an even bigger protein punch. The company has increased the protein content of Boost in the US from 15g per serving to 20g – a protein increase of 33 percent – in a bid to appeal to the 51 years and older demographic. The use of protein as a source of strength and recovery aid is no longer limited to marathon runners. This is clear as nutritional demands from the senior demographic spurs higher protein NPD.

Researchers from the University of Missouri now have discovered through a new animal study that soy protein found in food might counter the negative effects of menopause on bone and metabolic health. Moreover, the researchers believe that soy protein might also have positive impacts on bone strength for women who have not yet reached menopause.

According to the applicant, Biova LLC (the supplier of BiovaFlex), the ingredient holds particular market potential due to its natural sourcing credentials as well as the convenience it brings by being water-soluble.
12 Jul 2018 --- Sticking to a diet rich in fruit, vegetables, nuts, unrefined cereals, olive oil and fish can reduce hip bone loss within just 12 months, according to research from the University of East Anglia. The study is the first long-term, pan-European clinical trial looking at the impact of a Mediterranean diet on bone health in older adults. More than 1,000 people aged between 65 and 79 took part in the trial, and volunteers were randomized into two groups – one which followed a Mediterranean diet and a control group which did not. Bone density was measured at the start and after 12 months. The diet had no discernible impact on participants with normal bone density, but it did have an effect on those with osteoporosis.
