14 Aug 2018 --- Nestlé’s flagship adult nutrition high protein drink, Boost, now packs an even bigger protein punch. The company has increased the protein content of Boost in the US from 15g per serving to 20g – a protein increase of 33 percent – in a bid to appeal to the 51 years and older demographic. Researchers from the University of Missouri now have discovered through a new animal study that soy protein found in food might counter the negative effects of menopause on bone and metabolic health. Moreover, the researchers believe that soy protein might also have positive impacts on bone strength for women who have not yet reached menopause.
06 Aug 2018 --- The European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) Panel on Dietetic Products, Nutrition and Allergies (NDA) has recognized egg membrane hydrolysate BiovaFlex as novel food pursuant to Regulation (EU) 2015/2283. According to the applicant, Biova LLC (the supplier of BiovaFlex), the ingredient holds particular market potential due to its natural sourcing credentials as well as the convenience it brings by being water-soluble.
12 Jul 2018 --- Sticking to a diet rich in fruit, vegetables, nuts, unrefined cereals, olive oil and fish can reduce hip bone loss within just 12 months, according to research from the University of East Anglia. The study is the first long-term, pan-European clinical trial looking at the impact of a Mediterranean diet on bone health in older adults. More than 1,000 people aged between 65 and 79 took part in the trial, and volunteers were randomized into two groups – one which followed a Mediterranean diet and a control group which did not. Bone density was measured at the start and after 12 months. The diet had no discernible impact on participants with normal bone density, but it did have an effect on those with osteoporosis.

28 Feb 2018 --- The body cannot metabolize bone-strengthening vitamin D with low magnesium levels, says a study published in The Journal of the American Osteopathic Association. While the recommended daily allowance for magnesium is 420 mg for males and 320 mg for females, the standard diet in the US contains only about 50 percent of that amount. As much as half of the total population is estimated to be consuming a magnesium-deficient diet. Meaning, the benefits of vitamin D - such as bone health - may be lost.
