Plant power: US sports company Momentous launches plant-based protein
24 Aug 2018 --- US sport nutrition company Momentous has launched a new line of plant based protein powders designed in collaboration with dietitians and strength coaches from the NFL, NBA, MLB and NHL. The product contains pea protein isolate, extracted from a non-GMO yellow pea, combined with rice protein concentrate. These two ingredients are the fastest absorbing plant protein sources available, and when combined, also complete a full amino acid profile. Currently, Momentous AbsoluteZero Plant protein is offered in Vanilla Chai and Piedmont Chocolate.
“The biggest consumers of our whey protein line are professional sports teams,” says Momentous' founder Matt Wan. “But they have a lot of athletes that need a plant based protein and don't like the options currently on the market. Sometimes this is because the products haven't been tested for banned substances, but most often it is because they don't like the taste. We spent more than a year working on this vegan, non-GMO and gluten-free formula and we believe we now offer the best tasting plant based protein available.”
The Momentous Performance Engineers include experts like Jordan Mazur, the Coordinator of Nutrition for the San Francisco 49ers, Mary Ellen Kelly, former Miami Dolphins Nutritionist, and Dave Scholz, the Director of Football Strength and Conditioning at Utah State University.
“The superiority of Momentous is rooted in their ability to excel in three critical areas of protein powder supplementation,” says Scholz. “Quality of raw ingredients, efficacious dosing of those nutrients, and a taste that is truly best in class.”
Momentous' plant formula is NSF Certified For Sport and the company notes that independent testing by NSF is especially crucial in a plant based protein where environmental toxins such as heavy metals are a common concern. Contaminants in the soil will be absorbed by the crops, so third party testing is needed, not just for banned substances, but for the presence of dangerous substances such as lead and arsenic.
