Fortification with Omya Calcipur®
In the field of supplementation, calcium carbonate is a globally recognized source of calcium that allows a number of related health claims. Thanks to its high elemental calcium content, only low dosages of Omya Calcipur® are required to provide a nutritional boost, positively affecting both cost and sensory impact. Possible areas of application include infant nutrition, (breakfast) cereals, bakery products and vegan dairy alternatives.
The ingredient can also be used to produce dietary supplements in solid dosage forms, such as vitamin D + calcium tablets for bone health.

05 Dec 2018 --- At HiE 2018, Omya presented its Calcipur range of natural calcium carbonates. This all-round ingredient optimizes production processes and formulations, but is also a supreme fortification agent, according to the company. Speaking to NutritionInsight at the show, Stefan Lander, Vice President Consumer Goods at Omya, says: “We are very pleased to present our prototypes with calcium carbonate, which is a very pure, functional and nutritional ingredient.” Thanks to a high bioavailability, this concentrated mineral source supports bone health as well as the proper functioning of muscles and nerves. Besides its nutritional qualities, the ingredient positively influences texture and processing, scoring well in applications such as powdered foods, bakery products, cereals, extruded snacks and vegan drinks.
08 Aug 2018 --- At this year’s annual IFT Food Expo, Omya presented its Omyafood range, which consists of tailor-made calcium carbonate particles for powdered protein and vitamin premixes. The ingredients act as flow aids and anti-caking agents for the sports nutrition and vitamin supplement industries. Omyafood provides powdered sports nutrition products and vitamin supplements with multiple benefits. Adrian Jager, Director of Market Development & Innovation at Omya, further explains the versatile particles: “It’s something that caters to the growing sports nutrition market and it can be used in vitamin premixes,” he says. “It provides not only nutrition and calcium for these applications but also functionality. The functionality is highlighted in the flowability of the powder.”
11 Dec 2017 --- At this year’s FiE, Omya presented its range of high purity calcium carbonates bundled under the brand Omya Calcipur in addition to specialty ingredients from its distribution portfolio. Used in combination, these products enable complete solutions to come quickly to market and satisfy the latest consumer trends. Following the theme “The future stays natural”, Omya demonstrated some of the multiple technical and health-enforcing benefits of their natural mineral particles by serving samples of calcium-enriched drinks and sugar-reduced cookies. NutritionInsight spoke with Katja Reichenbach.
